A sudden silence always took over the hallway when a new student entered the corridors of Clarissa Institute. It was the way things would be in the Institute for Gifted Children. How unfortunate, the new student thought, that she was one of them and hardly knew any of the other students. Yet the halls looked gifted themselves with the red rug and unique paintings that hung proudly on the walls. No one would address her by her real name, not even the guard who stood at the main door of the school. It was a strange name, Alice Black, but it was still a name. Alice's family had a long family line of actors, and certainly no freaks like her as her great grandmother phraised it. Maybe it was because of her crimson red hair, with some additional silver, that annoyed her grandmother or maybe it was the fact that Alice was a shape shifter, a person with ability to take any shape he or she wanted.
Point taken, a shape shifter wasn't common and extremely rare according to her Uncle who also was a shape shifter.
It wasn't something to be proud of, yet in Alice's case it was something to be proud of compared to her older brothers and sister. None of them were gifted like Alice, yet most of them had been to Prinston or even Harvard and lead sucessful lives. To start from the top, Lily was twenty-six with two kids and worked as a mayor of a town. Charlie was in Russia following his passions of fossils and old history. And Billy was a professor at Harvard, one of the youngest. In comparrison Alice was the youngest and least succesfull, and still her uncle tells her for the age of fifteen there isn't much successfullment in anyone's life at that age. True, yet Alice thought it was improvement to recognize difference in people with herself. Maybe it was about to change it, so if you were a fortune teller it would've been helpful to Alice who wanted to know what might happen to her if she planned to stay at this school.Peering out of the window alone made the impression that the school was doing a very good job with teaching the students were strolled outside enjoying the cool breeze and warm sun. Almost excited Alice read the messy map she had written on the palm of her hand in red ink to find her own room which was somewhere on the third floor. Problem was, Alice had no clue what floor she was on the five floors the school had.
Ignoring her own panic Alice sat under the window and waited for the elevator she had paged several minutes ago to finally arrive. The leaves that fell into her hair and onto her clothes Alice spread out her legs and held onto her black duffle bag, wanting to see if any student might see her or even notice her and would help her find her own room. The thought of shifting into another animal was one option until Alice explored the possibilities of setting people to call animal control since a wolf or raven was wondering through the corridors asking for directions to its room. The thought almost made her giggle until she took it seriously wanting to do one more practice before showing someone else and make a big fool of herself.
Feeling her insides burn up she could feel herself shrink as her hair rapildly changed into a midnight black while her arms burst into black wings. She could feel a beak growing from her nose and mouth, giving out a chirp and satisfied that she had transformed perfectly with no mistakes. Then it went wrong. Before the answer of what the huge yellow eyes staring back at her could be, it pounced her clawing into her flesh and tearing out her feathers. A cat, it was a cat who was just waiting to eat Alice. Screams from her beak echoed the hallway as Alice tortured herself to make the transformation back yet panic overtook her, making it impossible. The cat's wieght brought Alice down as she felt it's claw pick at her wings, wondering why the raven had stopped moving suddenly unlike other birds who stopped when they were dead.
"Mizie, what I have told you about attacking birds?"
The voice sounded almost holy to Alice that she cowered back into the wall, feeling her body return to its normal size yet the wounds weren't massive they still hurt a great deal of pain for Alice. Her fingers were still covered in some small feathers which didn't bother Alice since she was gratefull to be alive. Across from her though was obvisouly a student who held the cat and stared at Alice's wounds. He chuckled softly and handed her a bar of chocolate.
"Eat it. Trust me, it helps alot," he said, rubbing his shoulder as he put the cat down, shooing it away. "You must be that new student...the shape shifter Clarissa was talking about. We've never had a shape shifter at our school. Only genetic shifters which only shift into-"
"-into once animal which traits appear on the person themselves all the time, I know," Alice continued for him. "My great, great, great grandfather was a genetic shifter."
"Well, certainly seems like you know your facts which is good since most people who come here haven't a clue what elemental power is," he commented, stuffing the empty candy wrapper Alice gave back to him in his pocket. "By the way, I'm Kaleb Agretto. Been here for several years since I'm...how do you say, telekinesis."
"Understanable. I'm Alice Black, but could you bring me to this room?" Alice pointed to the room marked "#131" on her map written on her palm. "I'm lost and haven't a clue how to get there."
"Well, first you should visit the principle to let her know you're here and then go to the nurse," Kaleb advised, helping Alice to her feet and handed her her black duffle bag, continuing, "The Principle's office is straight ahead. It's that huge pair of doors with that red piece of paper by it. She'll bring you to the nurse. Hopefully we'll see each other."
And with that Kaleb walked off from the massive chaos of black feathers and Alice who watched the huge pair of doors Kaleb had pointed to. Slightly spinning, Alice began to pace over to the huge doors feeling her inside burn from nervousness. Hopefully the principle wouldn't yell at her for being a massive mess of feathers like her last one. Who knew? What took Alice by surprise the most was the name on the red paper; 'Clarissa Agretto.' Spinning around to see if Kaleb was still there, Alice relized she had just met the principle's son and wondered if she had made a huge embarrasment of herself.

Kanni looked up and down the tall halls, suddenly feeling very small. She hugged her teddy bear back-pack, bags dangling from her arms. Her long white pants made her trip and stumbled, but at least her black tank top didn't. Kanni smiled. "This is exactly like in my dream." Kannis whispered to herself, her eyes widening with the wonder.
Kanni's hair was a light purple of mild lilacs, and those were her favorite flowers as well. White and silver streaked her hair, and one braid hung close to her ear, beaded with a small glass sphere, only smaller than its twin hanging on a silver chain around Kanni's light sun-tinted neck, but enlaced with silver strands, covering the glass protectively.
Kanni's green eyes looked down the empty hallway, not knowing where the hell she was supposed to go. A small paper lay crumbled in her palm, and she narrowed her eyes, examining it. "Room #132..." She said, as if it made no sense at all. Kanni shook her head, wondering why she was even here. Then she smiled as the flash-backs came to her mind.
She had a dream about this school, for the first time at age four. Ever since that dream, she had done many strange things. Things she couldn't control, and never quite knew what would happen. For example: if she focused on making a pan float in the air, it would either do as she wished, or something way off would happen, like turning into a rubber chicken. In other words, Kanni had no idea what her ability was.
Her parents became a bit frightened of the things she did, and as they started to avoid her, the more and more she dreamed about this school. About walking through the corridors, about learning here. At the Clarissa Institute. The dreams were so vivid, that she could find the elevator with no problem, and she knew exactly where the lobby was.
Sometimes she would dream the same dream three days in a row. Finally she told her parent about it. They eagerly sought it out, and with much difficutly, finally found it. They started their search when Kanni was eleven, and now, at age fifteen, they finally found it. It was a boarding school, and her parents were dismayed to see their daught live a whole year away from them. Still, they allowed her, because it was so important to the girl who slowly came to fear her own powers. And her parents thought it was a gift, trying to tell her use and practice with them.
Kanni shook her head, for she refused to try and do something she couldn't control. Now, in this school specially made for gifted students, she felt much safer and at ease, knowing it'd be a lot more normal to suddenly conjure up something in the middle of class here rather than in a public school. Kanni hoped she would soon find out why she had those dreams, what her powers actually were, and how to control them to her will.
But going to this school was a dream of Kanni, and she pinched herself to make sure it was real. It was. Suddenly she tripped on her pants again, and went flying forward, dropping everything. Cursing in anger, she caused a pot holding red flowers turn into a snake, which hissed and slithered toward her.
Gasping at what she had done, she backed away from the snake, and stabbed in the dark, "Go away! Go away damn thing!" She waved her hands frantically, trying to make it at least turn into something else. The snake reared, and suddenly grew in size. Its scales stretched into a grey hide, and large horns jumped from its nose. When the transformation was done, a large rhino stood before her.
"Shit!" Kanni yelped. This is what she meant. She couldn't control anything. Her powers just ran loose like kids at recess. Even worse, Kanni had no idea how she triggered them to unleash at all. "Turn to dust!" Kanni said, trying to sound confident, waving a finger. With a low groan the rhine lifted into the air, and kicked wildly.
"No, no! Turn to dust! Or ash!" Kanni pleaded, her eyes darting around, wondering if anyone was seeing this. "Turn to ash!" Kanni repeated desperately.
The rhino bellowed and suddenly shriveled into a cloud, that dissolved into the air. Kanni sighed in relief, grasping the little charm around her neck, panting heavily from the scare. For all she knew, she could have unleashed a dragon on the whole school, or flodded it with milk. Kanni gathered her stuff, crawling around on hands and knees, trying to pick up the books, pencils, erasers, and anything else.
A hand handed her a pencil, and she said, "Thank you." Without looking up, and then her eyes shot up. Above her, grinning stood a snow white-haired boy with bright red eyes. His ears were slightly pointed, and his canine teeth were slightly sharened and a bit long.
"D-did you see it all?" Kanni asked, her face becoming red.
"Yup. Saw it all." The boy leaned against the wall with a smirk. "That was quite a show you put on, I hace to say that. I guess you definetly need this school more than others."
Kanni kept her gaze down, stuffing the last of her stuff into her bag, and slung them back on, slowly standing up under the weight. "You think I'll get killed for the mess?" Kanni motioned to a thin layer of ash and dust spread across the floor.
"Na. I'm a friend of Kaleb, he's the principle's son. I'm sure I can get him to ask her to over-look it just this once."
"Thanks. I could really use that. I haven't been here for fifteen minutes and already I've got off to a bad start." Kanni chuckled nervously. "So, why are you here?"
"I'm a animagus." He said. Kanni looked at him with confused eyes. "That means I can turn into an animal, but only one. My animal is a white lion."
"White lion? Do those really exist?" Kanni asked.
"Yes, as a matter of fact. They do live, but only few. They are certainly much rarer than the white tiger, of course. I'm here to learn how to control my transformations. Another thing is, sometimes, I can't control the white lion and I've had several accidents where I hurt people. Luckily, I didn't kill anyone, and that's why I'm here. So I never will kill anyone. Also, I have a very mild brush of telekanisis. Only a tiny bit though. I can't lift much heavier than a thick coffee mug now, but they're trying to teach me to really harness it and bring out the power.
"Ah-hah." Kanni said with interest. "And you can probably guess why I am here."
"What's your power?" He asked.
"I don't know. But what I do know is my name is Kanni. Nice to meet you." She held out a hand and he shook it, with amusement in his eyes.
"My name is Premidas. But you can call me Prem, almost everyone does. Any chance you need a tour and help reaching your room?"
"Yes, actually, that would be very nice." Kanni smiled gratefully to him, and he took some of her bags, heading down the hall.

Alice pondered through her thoughts and couldn't find one time where she was more stressfull than at the current moment. She knocked several times on the door, hearing shuffling of objects and doors in the room as a voice called out to her to wait. It was a strange request from the principle, yet none the less Alice obeyed it. Several minutes passed and a gorgous woman opened the two doors, almost knocking into Alice with one and panted out pink smoke. Behind a pink coating leaked out from under a floor board which shook irratibly. Swearing, Miss Clarissa greeted Alice in, stomping on the floor board and sat weakly on her desk.
"Well," Miss Clarissa started. "Glad that you made it alright, no bruises I suppose?" Her eyes were on several black feathers that stuck to Alice's hair.
Alice blushed slightly, her ears turning pink as she stammered, "Actually, just one. Tried to shape shift into a raven when a cat attacked. I believe your son, Kaleb, helped me and directed me here."
"Kaleb? Yes, he's my son. Always has his heads in the clouds when listening to which students I have enrolled," said Miss Clarissa, combing glitter out of her hair. "Ever tried brewing?"
"Excuse me?" asked Alice, not sure what the woman meant. "Brewing?"
"Never mind, you'll learn about it soon enough once classes start," brushing the subject aside, Miss Clarissa gave a new map to Alice, seeing the inked one on Alice's palm of her hand. "This'll be your map. I understand Kaleb roams through those halls often for his friends so you'll be able to pester him for directions. Now off you go, must get to know the school a bit more."
"Thank you," Alice stammered, not sure of what exactly to say as Miss Clarissa stood up, opening her door and whispered in urgency, "What are you doing here? The shape shifter...yes, she's here, so what?"
Miss Clarissa snapped around, watching Alice stir in her seat picking out the feathers from her hair who was secertly listening. A man entered the room dressed in ink-green cloaks that almost looked black. The man had a slender face and his pitch-black hair curled out in different angles. He looked like some one in a fairy tale who was evil, or in this case; just grumpy and strict. The man walked directly at Alice studying her figure and noted that she had just completed a transformation. Miss Clarissa tapped her foot impatiently on the shreaking floor board, her eyes locked on the man.
The man noted the leaking floor board. "Brewing once more Clarissa? Thought you had more sense than to brew before classes."
"Mr.Brige, may I remind you who hired you?" Miss Clarissa hissed, slamming both feet on the floor board which now halted its movement. "Now, Alice. This is one of your teachers who will be teaching you brewing, the thing were spoke of."
"Pleasure to meet you, Mr.Brige," said Alice, forcing a smile out of her frown directed at the man who only gave Alice a scowl.
"Listen, since you are a shape shifter. The first we ever had, doesn't mean you'll be let off easy," Mr.Brige hissed, forcing Alice to sink deeper into her chair.
"Well," Miss Clarissa interupted. "I believe Alice should be getting to her room now. We need to discuss something Mr.Brige. Right now."
The twin doors slammed after Alice was shooed out with her schuedle and a map. Kaleb was leaning under a portrait with his hands covering his ears and forced a weak smile, "Did he yell at you yet?"
"No," Alice whispered back, scared to be standing by the door anymore. "Is he mental or something?"
"Almost, you could say...almost."

With Premidas's help, Kanni got a tour of how to get to her room and entered it, gasping with pleasure. A huge for-poster bed was in the right corner, right next to a huge glass door that slid open to a balcony, allowing one to look over the whole school courtyard in the center of the rounded building. Yellow draped hung from the windows, drawn back with little shashed. the carpet was a light red, and the sheets were a dark satin, the bed beautifully decorated with an assortment of pillows. A walking closet was on the left side, and a small desk was right across from the bed, made of light birsh wood.
In the left corner was a glass door that led to a huge light sea-green tiled bathroom. A large tub stood at the right corner, formed like a juccuzzi, and could be made on with a press of a button. A shower stood at the right, and a toilet and sink next to that. In front of the sink, built into the wall, was a huge mirror that folded in at the sides for compartments and to use to see different angels of your face. Kanni went back into the room and dumped her bags on the bed. Another little dark brown desk lay at the far right corner, holding up a computer and next to it a TV. A map of the school and it's class rooms was posted on a pegg board handing above the desk.
"Wow," Kanni breathed, swirling around and taking in every sight. She went to the glass doors and slid them open, looking out from the balcony. Below in the courtyard was a large park, with luch green grass and a faily large lake in the middle. A pathway of gravel lead through the park, leading to the center next to the lake where benches stood and a large stone fountain of Prnciple Clarissa, Kanni presumed.
"Isn't it great?" Premidas asked, coming up next to her, smiling at the students lounging and prodding in the yard below. "I remember the first time I came here. That was a long time ago. Kaleb and I go way back, and I came here a year after he started here. He told me so many wonderful things, I had to come see for myself. Haven't left since."
"Don't you miss your parents?"
"Yea, but I go home to them on Christmas, and they come visit occasionally too. How about you?"
"I'll miss my parents. But I think I'll be too busy having fun here and trying to control my damn powers that I don't think I'll have much time to ponder about them." Kanni replied, and went back into the room, examining the map. "Oooo! They have a food court? And an arcade?" Kanni exclaimed.
"Yup. Those were made to keep the students busy when they don't go home for the holidays. Wanna come down and see? I can introduce you to some people. And guess what?" He asked, pointing to the room next to hers as they left, "A shape-shifter is supposed to be in that room! Our very first here at this school. I should be cool for you to meet her, and you have to introduce me, okay? Oh, don't forget your password!"
He pointed to an electrical lock on her door. "Make up a password, and every time you enter you have to type it in or you can't go in, got it?" He turned around and closed his eyes. Kanni thought a moment, and then typed in her password, smiling at what she came up with. "Okay, shall we go see the arcade now?" She asked, smiling, and Premidas nodded, leading her down the hall.
She looked at all the painting that hung on the wall with interest, and Premidas combed through his hair with one hand, "Those are the top teachers and students." He pointed to a particualr person with dark brown hair, and thick bushy eye-brows that shrouded his large brown eyes in shadow. The man was of thick build, and had very broad shoulders. He wore a blue robe trimmed with silver, a squared cap on his head, and a scroll held proudly in his hand. "That's my brother, Cronto. He now is serving as a teacher in other gifted schools, and very successful too."
Kanni nodded. The man did seem to have an unmistakeable ambitious look in his eyes. Suddenly a white silky form slithered down the hallway, giggling and chattering like a person. Premidas jumped into guard stance, but the ghost chuckled at him, and greeted him with a friendly gesture. "Oh! Mari, it's just you." He sighed, and the ghost fell to the floor, suddenly taking solid form and color.
Before them stood a girl with thick brown locks and bright yellow eyes, her skin was dark, and she had a slight plump build. "Kanni, this is Mari, my little sister. It's her first year here too. Mari, this is Kanni."
"Pleased to meet you!" the girl said cheerfully. Finally, I'm in the sixth grade, middle school! And I am eligible to come here. I am eleven. And you?"
"I'm fifteen, and in going into tenth grade, high school." Kanni replied.
"Really? I'm sixteen, going into eleventh." Premidas said, and gave his little bouncy sister a hug. She then scampered off down the hall when she saw a friend, calling, "Bye Prem! Bye Kanni! Hope to see you around!"
"Bye." Kanni and Premidas called in usion. "Well, the arcade. First, it's located on the bottom floor, where the lobby is, where I first met you. Come." He led her down a slightly dark corridor, and paged the elevator. When it came there were already a few people in it, chattering loudly and messing with their things.
"Hi Prem!" one of the boys called, and Premidas waved. Getting out on the ground floor, the students rushed out, almost knocking each other over. "Be glad school doesn't really start for two days." Premidas grunted, "Then we'd all be running to our classes for our lives!"
"You'll have to give me tips on the teachers." Kanni mumbled. "And shape-shifter? As you said before..."
"Oh, her. Yea, a shape shifter can change into any animal he or she wants, and back. Animagus, like me, can only change into one animal. And we don't get to choose either. I always wondered what it would be like to be able to turn into a cat...or a tiger...or aligator maybe. Then I could eat that bastard Mr. Brige."
"Who's that?"
"Teacher of hell who teaches brewing. I'm sure you'll have to take it this year, especially since all new people have never learned it and it's quite important."
"What exactly is brewing?"
Premidas gave her a wry smile, "That you shall see. And soon." That was all he would say on the matter, and went back tothe topic. "The shape-shifter, she's right next to your room. You have a good chance to get to know her, so do. Fascinating creatures, shape shifters are." Premidas said in a dazed tone.
"And Kaleb told me he actually met her! When his cat attacked her when she turned into a raven. Imagine that! Lucky ass." He then looked at Kanni. "But even though everyone is excited about the shape-shifter, there has been some gossip about you too. Kaleb hinted that the teachers find you...let's say...quite interesting."
"Psh! How could they? they don't even know what I am. Heck, I don't even know what I am!" Kanni protested. Actually, sometimes she felt a little ashamed, walking there next to Premidas who had years of training in controling his powers and magic. Yet, she didn't even have a clue what would happen, or even how to unleash her powers. Sometimes, they just seemed to act on their own accord. And this is what Kanni feared most.
"So, Premidas-"
"Please, call me Prem." Premidas insited, but Kanni actually thought Premidas sounded better than Prem. But she took the oblige to please him.
"Okay...Prem, what kind of classes are there?" Kanni asked, as they veered right down a brightly lit hallway, and the sounds of laughing people and beeping games could be heard echoing down the hallways.
"Let's see...We have regular subjects like Math, Reading, and stuff. Then we have brewing, classed to test how well we can control our powers and train us, then we have Annikaology, the study of abnormal powers in all sorts. Then we have our daily lecture on any subject the teacher can pick from the sky, and, of course, somewhere in between there we have a free hour for lunch and what ever else.
"So it's a lot like a normal school, except, well, for that we all have something special." Premidas concluded, and Kanni nodded partcially to herself.
Winding around the corner, they came to a large opening where many virtual and action games were circled around a gray tiled circular center, in which the chairs and tables were assembled for one to eat the food bought by the near-by stands.
"Hungry?" Premidas asked.
"Oh, God, you have no idea!" Kanni felt her hollow stomach roar.
"Good. How about some ice cream?"
"Sorry, I left my money upstairs. I'll run get it if you'll wai-"
"Kanni, Kanni, Kanni," Premidas sighed, holding up a hand to silence her. "Why did you think I asked you if you wanted some ice cream if I meant for you to pay? Come on, I'm not that big of a jerk. On me, for the new student, in hopes of a good year to follow." He prosted, and tugged her to the ice cream parlor.
"Why hello there, Prem. Haven't seen you in a while? Been busy?" An olf lady came up, her gray hair tucked into a bun and her face wrinkled with laugh-lines.
"Yea. Been about and around. Listen, this is Kanni. One of the new students."
"Ah, yes, I have heard about you...You and that shape shifter are quite the talk about here now a days."
"M-Me? What could possibly be so special about me?" Kanni stammered. "I mean, I'm like everyone else: a girl with powers that she cannot control seeking for training to harness it and learn about what is around me."
"Yes, yes...but you will soon see, you will soon see. It is no mistake you and the shape shifter were put together."
"I'm sure any of the new students could have lived next door." Kanni said, using logic, wishing the lady would stop her riddling talk.
"Yes, yes, but out of all the new students who came, it was you and her they decided to put together. Now, children, what can I get you?" She asked with a hearty voice, smiling.
"Well," said Premidas, spreading out his arms to reveal rows and rows of all the flavors of ice cream Kanni had ever seen, and not seen at all. "Make your pick." He grinned at her wide eyes, and leaned against the counter, flicking the dollar bills in his hand.

It had been a very tiring first few hours, shaking everyone's hands as they gawked at Alice waiting for her to shift into another animal. Mr.Brige continued to watch Kaleb and Alice in the corridors, his scowl loathing Alice for her powers. She had suspected some teacher would hate her, so it didn't give Alice much of a shock. Kaleb steered her to her own room through the red carpeted corridors, it was something that Alice admired. Gasping with pleasure, a huge four-poster bed was in the right corner, right next to a huge glass door that slid open to a balcony, allowing one to look over the whole school courtyard in the center of the rounded building. Orange with yellow roses drapes hung from the windows, drawn back with little shashed. There was no carpet but polished wood in different shades that had small burn marks patterened to look like ivy vines was crawling around the floor. At her right a large glass door led into the blue tiled-bathroom with a very large shower and drifting fragrences. Kaleb chuckled softly to her amazement.
"Wow, I never even had a room this big before!" Alice exclaimed, padding around the bed to examine it's covers and beaded pillows.
"Yea, Prem and I thought the same thing when we first came here," said Kaleb, crossing his arms. "I never go anywhere during the holidays. Prem goes rarely."
Alice looked up from redoing the order of her pillows. "Prem?"
"You'll meet him soon, he's a good friend of mine," Kaleb answered, tossing a electrical lock, and added, "That's your lock to keep this door shut. Make up the password and I'll give you a tour to any where you like."
"Deal." It was easy for Alice to quickly fiddle with the object and attach it to the door. While chanting her number in her head Kaleb waved her furthor down the hall. Kaleb avoided the big crowds, which made sense to Alice. Yet they missed one crowd near the food court. One name Alice caught was Pansy and another was Eric that belonged to the two kids who looked in control. Kaleb next to Alice, giving deathly glares. Suddenly someone jerked Alice's hair surprising her as she felt herself shrink to the size of a mouse.
"It's the shape shifter!"
"-she's turned into a mouse!"
"Where is she now!?"
Alice didn't know the answer to the last answer either since she was now in a pocket. Telling by her own wish, she believed it was Kaleb who barked at students to get back to their own corridors and rooms at the instant. Alice's hopes were drowned by the panic and embarassment she had just created for herself. Poking her small mouse face out of the pocket Alice was convinced that it was Kaleb's pocket.
"Thank goodness they're gone," Kaleb whispered. "Things will boil down once everyone sees you at least once."
Good. At least things would cool down, and yet Alice felt the panic strive in her heart. She wouldn't be able to go back to her human form until she was relaxed. Kaleb put her down on the marble floor, letting her feet tap against the floor as Alice paced around. Finally after what seemed like hours, Alice felt her insides burn as she resumed her normal shape. Kaleb grinned at her and patted her shoulder helping her up. Mr.Brige now watched her infront of the food court, causing Alice to nearly fall against Kaleb with surprisement. The man glared her down until Alice decided to wave shortly, not wanting her hand to be spoked off with the spork in his hand.
"Is he mental or something?" Alice hissed to Kaleb who crouched on the floor next to her.
Kaleb snorted, saying, "Wish he was. That man is always on someone's back. And it looks like he's bothered by you sitting here watching him as he's watching us."
"Mental," said Alice in an undertone. There was no need for her to recieve detention on the first day.
After a few minutes of Alice regaining her breath, Kaleb brought her into the food court, attracting many eyes as Alice walked after him feeling her ears turn pink. Chatting was turned into whispers about the shape shifter. The feeling of being executed churned in Alice's mind. The food looked wonderful that Kaleb showed her but the question of where to eat it hung on Alice. Kaleb wrapped her arm around her shoulder, bringing her down to the food more carefully as he whispered, "They won't matter. Okay? You need to eat since I need to show you something rather important."
It was no use disobeying Kaleb, so Alice took a order which Kaleb payed for ignoring Alice's offers of paying herself. Students shifted over for Alice to sit next to them. It was something that Alice always hated; fame. Pansy, the students from before, now shifted over for Alice too. Kaleb tugged Alice through the tables to an empty one tucked away in a corner.
"Just pick at your food and ignore them," Kaleb yawned, "They hate being ignored."
"I just can't even eat with them all eating," Alice hissed, breaking her spork in half.
Kaleb took both halves of the spork."I'll get you a new one."
He wandered away from the table alone. Alice stared at her food until she looked up, seeing an older student who two bright red ears, who stammered, "Hi, you're the shape shifter. I was wondering if you'd...well, turn into a leopard and eat a teacher."
The attention in the food court was now directed at Alice who lept at the students, shifting into a pitch-black wolf who snarled at the student pinned underneath her. Food was spilled over the student who cried out for help, yet not one student or teacher stepped forward to help him. Kaleb raced over to Alice, holding out a cautionate hand which Alice entirely ignored. Her dark blue eyes were fixed on the student who whimpered. Slowly stepping away, she padded sulky out of the food court, pursued by Kaleb who followed her closely, hearing her whimper softly trying not to make a sound.
"It's not that bad," Kaleb comforted. "At least you didn't eat him or do worse. You'll get alot of those jerks around."
Alice would have snorted if she could.
"Maybe it's best if you go to your room and rest. I'll be back in the morning to bring you to your first class, alright?" said Kaleb.
With no regrets Alice stood up on her hind legs, licking Kaleb's cheek and jumped down, running through the corridors. Students stirred away from Alice, clapping and hooting wildly. The rumor had spread widely and people were happy. Reaching her room, Alice pressed her nose against the buttons in a pattern, until she found a boy and a girl walking to the room next to her. The boy gazed at the wolf clawing it's way into the room. Alice shook her head and entered her own room, shutting it behind her and got to work on shifting back, which worked.

"You see her?" Premidas asked, "She just walked in!" Kanni looked up from her bannana ice-cream but the door was already closed.
"Nope. Missed it." She said, not really regretting it. Premidas shrugged.
"Should we knock and see?" He asked, hopefully.
"No! She was probably running away from everyone else. But go ahead. I hope she bites your head off." Kanni sniffed, and Premidas blushed.
"You must think I'm a moron now, and a jerk, huh?"
"Another ice-cream will make up for it. And maybe another game of battle space ships too!" Kanni smiled, her tongue freezing when she took too big a bite from the ice-cream. Premidas held out his arm, and Kanni locked hers around it.
"Shall we?" He asked, and Kanni nodded, and they paraded back down to the arcade. Kanni beat Premidas twice at the virtual game, but he soon made up for it by whoping her at mini basketball. Soon it grew into the early night, and Premidas took her into the courtyard. They strolled along the gravel path, watching the animals scurry around, and took a seat on a white bench by the fountain.
Slowly the sun ebbed away, and the stars came out, awaking from their sleep. Kanni looked up at them, knowing that this was going to be one of the most wonderful years of her life. Premidas eyed her gazing face, "What are you thinking about, staring at the stars like they're some answer?"
"They are. Many beleive that if you stare at them long enough, you will find what you seek..." Kanni's voice trailed off, and she close her eyes, leaning her head back with the sweeping breeze toying with her lilac hair.
"And what do you seek?" Premidas asked with interest, his red eyes flashing.
"If I told you," Kanni said softly, "then it wouldn't come true." Premidas chuckled but didn't press the subject anymore. Slowly the other students began to return to their rooms, and finally, when they were the last ones still outside, Premidas got up and stretched. "Okay, let's go before we get into trouble."
Kanni awoke from her day-dreaming and slowly got to her feet. She was quite reluctant to leave, but she knew Premias was right. The crickets chirped loudly in the grass, and little fireflies lit up all around them. Birds slowly fel silent into their sleep, and hoots of owls took their place.
"Tomorrow, I'm sure, Principle Clarissa will have us all assemble in the dinning room and lay out that law. Long set of rules, it is, and it may drive all the life out of you, but beleive me, most of them are not as strict as they seem."
"Just remember to tell me that when I hear them." Kanni joked, as they entered the almost empty marble white hallways and got into an elevator. Premidas walked her to her room, and Kanni punched in the password, then pushing open the dark wooden door.
"Well, good night, Premidas." She said, and he waved.
"See you tomorrow. Oh, by the way, set your clock for six, okay? I'll meet you at the lobby, if you like, and show you where the dinning room is. We'll probably miss all our morning classes with the lectures Miss Clarissa will give us. After she tells all the rules as she does every year, we'll go to lunch, and I can help you with your classes.
"Who knows? Maybe we'll see each other in them. If not, we can always meet at lunch." He waved a hand dissmissively. "I'm sure all will spell itself out tomorrow, Miss. Clarissa is quite clear on what she wants."
"Okay." Kanni twirled a light purple lock around her finger, and for a moment, Premidas fell silent and stared into her eyes, without blinking. It made her heart race and her muscles tighten. But, suddenly, a painting on the wall sprouted golden chicken legs and hopped from its nail. It ran clucking and squwaking at Premidas, and Kanni became a deep red with embarrassment, knowing that she had somehow done it.
Premidas dodged a peck and gave her a look of pleasure, which shocked Kanni. She thought he would be mad. He gave the bewitched painting a playfull kick, and Kanni yelled at it, "Return to normal!"
Instantly the painting lost its legs and shriveled into milk, that sank ito the red carpet. "Milk?" Kanni asked, surprised at herself. "How the hell did 'return to normal' get mixed up with milk?"
"It's okay. I'm sure they can just put up a new painting. Just don't tell anyone it was you!" Premidas gave her a wink. "Well, Miss Kanni, I'll see you tomorrow. Oh, what's your last name? Teachers here usually call their students by the last name; tell me so I don't get mixed up."
"My last name? Oh. It's Merrane. Kanni Merrane. You?"
"Anthen. Premidas Anthen. See you tomorrow! Remember, six o'clock sharp! All teachers hate lazy late people!"
"I'll keep that in mind. Bye!" Kanni called, waving at the boy who began to run down the hall and slipped into the elevator. Kanni slammed the door shut, and ran to her bed, gathering a great leap and landed onto the pillow assortment. She let out a yell of excitement, and put the pillows in a little compartment under the bed. She took out her clothes and hung them up in the walking closet, and then spread her things about her room.
On her peg board she posted pictures of her family, and lay all her little daggers in the desk jour. Some people thought she was paranoid to carry the weapons with her all the time, but Kanni thought it was smart. She examined the map again and took out her enrollment form. She smiled at the folded letter. It was the letter she received saying she was admitted into the school, and she always would treasure it.
Kanni drew red circles around her classes, and posted up the teacher list next to the map. She piled the books required for her classes on the desk; she had ordered most from the school that were then sent to her at home. On one sheet she noticed a little box saying that one was allowed to have the pets: cat, toad, bat, or a harmless snake.
Kanni smiled, tracing her finger over the word "snake". She loved cats as well, but she had enough of them back at home. Kanni went into the bathroom and took a shower, brushed her teeth, and pinned her long lilac hair into a roll at the top of her head. The slightly curled tips ended with and inward wave, and she let her beaded braid hang next to her ear.
She dressed into her light blue tank top and long silk pants, that she had learned not to trip over, even though they hung over her feet and grazed the floor when she walked. She once again leapt onto her bed and noticed a little black cordless phone on her nightdesk, next to the light, set on the bed's right side. Obviously used for when students wanted to read their studies in bed. And the phone? Maybe so teachers could reach them, or they the teachers when they had questions?
Or maybe club leaders left messages on it for their followers, or maybe students used it to call one another. Kanni jolted when it rang. Timidly she picked up the phone, "Hello?"
"What? You already tired?" Premidas's voice said, and she could almost see him smirking.
"Oh, it's you again."
"You want me to go?" His cvoice sounded so sincere that Kanni had to burst out laughing.
"No, no. What are these phones for?"
"What do you think? You can all anyone with them. And this is also a way your parents can reach you, as well as teachers and such." Premidas answered.
"Really? I can call mom and dad on this? Do we have to pay?"
"No. It's all in with the really high cost the school demands when you get admitted here."
"High or not, it's all coming to a good cause. I mean, look at this place! We're like living in a castle!"
"The school tried to make you feel as comfortable and at home as possible." Premidas said matter-of-factly. "Well, just calling to check on you. See you tomorrow. Next time I call, I'll give you my room number and phone number. We all usually have cell phones, but this is cheeper!"
Kanni felt him grin. "How did you get my number? I don't even know it!"
"I got it from the office. And the number to your phone should be taped with a pink paper to the base of your phone."
Kanni looked and saw it was there. "Okay. got it. Bye."
"Bye." Premidas said, and a click sounded as he hung up. She lay the phone back on the receiver and rolled into her deep red covers, seeing it had three layers of sheets. The top was for show, dark red, then there was a lighter red comforter, and then a think yellow sheet beneath.
They think of all seasons, Kanni thought to herself, and set the alarm she found next to the phone. And they provide everything too! She set it for five thrity, knowing it'd take forever to force herself from bed that early.
She reached under the light yellow lampshade with beaded trims and flicked off the lamp, and her room flooded with darkness, only making an exception for the silvery white moonlight seeping in through her almost clear thin white drapes.

It had been a painful night for Alice trying to redo the shape shifting from kanine to human. The panic from before sank into her stomach and stayed there. As if it really mattered, the music from another room didn't help her much. The cold glare from Mr.Brige was buried and painted into her memory. Urges of suddenly howling came to her, yet Alice buried her nose into the pillows she pulled out onto the floor. The thought of going to Kaleb early in the morning stayed on her mind. Regretting every move in the food court, Alice padded out of the room and into the corridors; still the black dog. The marble floor clicked whenever her claws walked against it. Many rooms stood ajar showing students were still up gossiping about the shape shifter. It annoyed every part of Alice being dubbed shape shifter.
Yet, ignoring the students she broke into a gallop around the halls searching for Kaleb's room. Maybe, Alice told herself, maybe he's in his mother's room or something. Then a problem met with Alice. The care keeper Merlin was wondering the halls that Alice found herself in. He walked on a old cane and one eye was covered with a band. Alice advanced a few, retreated a few steps not sure of what to do. Merlin kept creeping closer. Without taking notice Alice barked and began to growl threateningly at the old man. It worked, for Merlin cowered against the wall pleading to not be attacked as Alice strode by the man.
"Alice!"
The voice came from another room next to the own Alice was inspecting. Looking to her right she saw Kaleb leaning out of his door with an alarm clock. Giving a small bark and wagging her tail Alice padded to Kaleb, allowing him to scratch her behind the ears as he asked, "Can't transform back?"
Alice nodded.
"You're still nervous from yesterday ended....four hours ago?" asked Kaleb, reading the dials of the small clock he held.
Alice nodded once more.
"I have to start my patrol once more...wonder where Merlin is," said Kaleb while throwing the clock into his room.
Alice cocked her head to the left.
Kaleb smirked and waved her into his room which Alice would've gasped about if she could. The room had more varities of colors and much more unigue objects. She strode over to the large window seeing that the sun was peeking over the mountains. Kaleb walked into the bathroom, calling out, "Clarissa is going to be assembling all students today and she wants to see you prior. I think we'll deliver you to her as a wolf to give a scare, should we?"
Alice barked at the thought and wagged her tail again.
Kaleb's voice called out from the bathroom, "Thought so. Besides, Prem has been dieing to meet you. He goes on about how he'd be the first in his family to meet a shape shifter. We'll have to go back to recover Merlin though so he doesn't say anything to Mr.Brige."
Alice growled at the brewing teacher's name mentioned.
"I know what you mean," said Kaleb, stepping out of the bathroom and pointed at the windows and closets which shut themselves up. "That's my power for you. Most kids read minds, are genetic shifters, can appear where ever and all sorts. Yet a shape shifter is very rare to come by. Come on."
Kaleb walked Alice out of the room. Straight away they saw Merlin whining in the corridor, waving his stick at anything that he believed moved. As what came to Alice's surprise, Kaleb snuck past Merlin and waved Alice past who both weren't caught. Once they were several minutes away, Kaleb held up a lamp to see Alice whose fur sank into the shadows un-noticed. Soon it was twenty past four in the morning and they stood infront of Clarissa's room which now purple smoke leaked out from the bottom.
"What is it!?" called Miss Clarissa's voice.
Alice barked and scratched the door, something odd for her to do.
"Alice?" Clarissa opened the twin doors. "Alice and Kaleb? What are you two doing up at this hour?"
Kaleb walked past his mother into the room with Alice. "Alice got panicked and can't redo the shape shifting bit on her own."
Clarissa turned to Alice, "Well, you've came to the right place my dear. I've delt with my cousin about this before. Now, you sit and watch that smoke and try it as much as you can. I don't want you passing out here now, do we?"

(A nice long one for you rachel! ah...sweet revenge....Muahahahaha!^.^=)
Kanni tossed and turned, nightmares marring her sleep. She finally sat up screaming to the vision of a monster lurking in the hallways, dragging off bloody students into the shadows. Her skin pricked and she shivered, suddenly feeling very cold. Drawing her covers tighter around her she looked at the faint green glowing numerals on the alarm clock and saw it was four twenty in the morning.
She flicked on her night-lamp and examined the room. Suddenl a faint knock at the door sent her into a startled jump. "Kanni? You awake?" a voice rasped, knocking again. Then the phone rang, and Kanni picked it up, "Hello?"
"Kanni, open th door, it's me." Premidas's sleepy voice echoed in her ear before hanging up. Kanni slipped from her warm blankets, and strode to the door, opening it a crack. She could see a tired Premidas leaning against the wall propped by one arm, half asleep.
"What, are you some sort of stalker?" Kanni joked, letting the tired boy in. Premidas combed through his white hair with aone hand, trying to matt down the mess it became from sleeping. His red eyes flashed and he said, "Like what you've done with the place."
"That still doesn't say why you're here." Kanni growled with a yawn, and retreated back to her blankets. Without asking for permission Premidas walked over and slipped under the covers next to her, sitting upright and leaning against the bed post.
"What?" Kanni asked irritated, turning red. Premidas yawned and shook his head to help wake him.
"I always get up this early. Kaleb and me, since Miss Clarissa trusts us both the most, have certain duties and have to get up much earleir. Like we patrol, check the rooms, bring in supplies...I was walking by down this corridor and heard a scream coming from your room. What was that about?"
Kanni blushed and turned over, resting her head on her pillow, "None of your business!"
"Aw, don't be mean. I mean no harm." Premidas yanked on the covers she had curled into and she swung around to face him.
"Prem, it's too early! Let me sleep!" She wailed, and Premidas gave her a surprised look.
"Sorry if I bothered you." He growled, and got out of her bed, his black K-Swiss shoes still on his feet. Kanni groaned, wondering why he took everything so seriously.
Instead of letting him go and sleeping on as she longed to, her hand shot out and grabbed his arm, "Stay." She commanded.
"Oh, so I'm your pet now?" Premidas asked, a malicious pleasure in his eyes. He slowly sat back down on the bed, noting how Kanni's hand squeezed and clung tightly to his wrist even after he agreed to stay. Finally Kanni swung out of bed, moaning about how cold and tired she was. "It's still early, but maybe you can show me how to get through the corridors without getting lost every time." Kanni left Premidas to inspect her room while she took a hot steamy shower and changed into a black sweater that had sleeves only down to her elbow joint and rested across her chest and hung low on her shoulders.
She picked a white towel-like material layered skirt and then slipped into her white addidas tennis shoes. She brushed through her hair and let it fall freely over her shoulders. Emerging from the bathroom she threw her pajama onto the bed, and stuffed the covers roughly back in place, and Premidas reset the pillow assortment.
They groggily emerged from the room, and Kanni carefully locked the door before allowing Premidas to lead her down the dimly light gold and red corridors. "So, how can I get a snake?" Kanni asked, still rubbing the sleep from her eyes, slightly smudging her eye-liner.
"You buy it from the school store. It should actually open tomorrow morning, cause we have the lecture and all this morning."
"Oh..." Kanni bumped into a large vase holding a plant with tall thick stalks, with broad bright green leaves branching from the tips. She shook aside the the plant and followed Premidas into the elevator. He punched in the button labeled: "Ground Floor/Lobby". Slowly the elevator jerked into movement and steadily brought them down, beeping as the door once again slid heavily open.
Premidas and Kanni squinted. The ground floor, unlike the corridors, were made of white marble and was lit up with bright lights. Slowly Kanni's eyes adjusted, and she peered at all the paintings, framed letters and awards, and saw a faint pink smoke coming from Principle Clarissa's room. "Brewing," Premidas grunted, and once again rubbed his eyes.
"What is that again?" Kanni asked, her curiosity burning within her.
"It's-oh! Little worm. You almost got it out of me." Premidas caught himself, and gave Kanni's shoulder a playful shove. She didn't continue walking until she managed to ram him against the wall in turn, and laughed at Premidas's surprised pleasure. "Like to play rough, eh?" he asked, a strange expression settling on his face.
Kanni quickly spun away before he could see her reddening face and asked, "Well? Where are we going?"
"Oh," Premidas brushed away a stray bang and looked about, "This way." He pointed her down the hall and they walked by the principles office, the faint pink smoke choking Kanni as she coughed. They strolled down the white stone hallways and then came to a pair of huge brown twin doors patterened with different symbols; five to be exact.
"You see those symbols? They are what the students are sorted by. Each symbol representes a "house", so to say, and each house had their teachers and classes and such. I'm in the house Tibileek, like Kaleb. And judjing by your room placement, you and the shapeshifter should end up in the same house."
"That's good." Kanni whispered, trailing her finger over the sign that resembled majestic curling vines.
Premidas pointed to one that looked like many blotches, "That is the house of Remma." He pointed to one with long swipes that seemed to make a letter "s", "That's the house of Salarsh." Another with half-moons cresting a starry sky he named as the Hunzrin house. The last one had many words emprinted on it, "That's the Perrianku house.
"Each house stresses a certain skill. The Salarsh: dark arts. The Hunzrin: books and knowledge. The Remma: charms. The Perrianku: writing spells and reading languages." Premidas finished with an uneasy sigh.
Kanni awaited for him to continue, but seeing that he wasn't going to, she asked, "And the house of Tibileek?" Premidas was silent a moment, and then his eyes rolled to the paintings marking the high ceilings.
"Well...we are a very special house. The Tibileek house stresses the anceint arts, and reading the old tablets, scrolls, and spell books. We are a house of wisdom and power, and very few get into our house. In fact, the other houses each out-number us by at least a hundred." Premidas forced a laugh.
"It would be amazing to have the only shape-shifter in our house. But we also have problems from other jealous houses. The other students recognize what we do is different from they do, and often make trouble to settle the scores to themselves. So, we are constantly under the spot-light, and it'll be a hard year especially for you and that shape-shifter is you are admitted into our house.
"The hight council of this school decided who goes where. Everyone is put in their house for a reason, a purpose. Most people have found out their power in their house, their place, but the Tibileek house remains a mystery. People placed into our house are mysterious, and special in many ways they themselves do not beleive. Kaleb and I were the first ones set in the Tibileek house.
"People don't bother us as much cause we've always been in it, but still we don't know our place. We have no idead why we were set into this house, or what are purpose in it is. We're just...there." Premidas shrugged. "I'd tell you more, but one: I'm not allowed to, and two: I'm sure you will soon see and undertand for yourself. If you are put in Tibileek house, that is.
But I am almost certain that you and the shape-shifter will be with Kaleb and I, and the few other students in our house. Don't worry." Premidas gave her reassuring grin when he saw her grave thoughtful face.
Premidas pushed open the large doors and revealed a long rectangle shaped room, spreading out so long Kanni had to squint to see the teachers' coucil-like table on a platform. Long dark wooden rectagular tables were lined up along the walls: two in the middle, and two on either side pushed up against the room, making the most room possible. High arches supported the towering domed ceiling, and old paintings bedecked the ceiling, it's color slightly cracking with age, but obviously also preserved by some sort of magic.
Kanni's stomach suddenly growled loudly, and she rested a hand on her hollow-feeling stomach, trying to silence the noise. Premidas's ears perked and he gave her a toothy grin, exposing her slightly pointier and longer than usual canines. (name of tooth, not dog!!^^;) "Transform into a white lion." The command slipped from Kanni's lips before she could stop herself.
"Why?" Premidas's red eyes narrowed.
"I-I've never seen a white lion before. Nor heard of them. I only heard of white tigers."
Just after she finished Premidas closed his eyes, his arms slightly stretching out. He lifted his head, and a light white haze swirled around him. He tilted back his head and allowed the fog to encase him. Then he hunched down on all fours, and white fur covered his body. A tufted tail swished from side to side, and the fog slowly ebbed away, revealing-indeed- a white lion.
Its red eyes flickered as it stared at her, its fron paws flexing their claws. Kanni stared at it with wonder, and cautiously held out a hand to the large cat. It padded up and leaned into her caress, and Kanni smiled with delight. Then the lion drew back, and tilted its head back. White fog once again circled around it, and the cat form slowly swooped up and back on two feet.
After it dimmed again, Premidas sighed heavily and fell to his knees, rubbing his temples. "Premidas?" Kanni rushed to him, dropping to her knees, running a comforting hand over his back. "Prem? You okay? Say something!"
"I'm fine!" Premidas snapped, and shoved away her hand, staggering uneasily to his feet. He swayed on his heels before he re-gained control of his legs again, and managed to walk on two legs again.
"Happy now?" he asked with a weak grin.
"You didn't have to do that if it would have hurt you." Kanni answered, worry in her eyes.
Premidas scowled. "It didn't hurt me," he hissed. Kanni was surprised with his angered tone. Had she offended him? Premidas limped to her, catching himself from a stumble by tightly grasping her shoulder. She helped him steady himself and waited a few minutes while Premidas re-collected himself.
"You okay?" She finally asked and Premidas answered with his cheery grin.
"Yup. You hungry? We could go catch some breakfast at the food court," he suggested.
"That would be nice." Kanni took the offer, and they headed off before they'd have to rush back down and sit and await for the long lecture of rules and restrictions from Miss Clarissa.

Suddenly feeling the warmth rise into her ears and tail Alice could slowly feel herself being release from the kanine instinct as her own returned. The fur slowly vanished in a blur of white swirls with red while her tail shrank till no more. Her own hair, with was blurs of red, came undone from an imaginary pin and flowed with the transformation. Alice's dark beady eyes colored back to her own ruby eyes which darted around to see past the white swirls with red. Finally Alice stood infront of Clarissa and Kaleb, waiting patiently for the dark furred ears to vanish with the last hint of white and red swirls of blurs. It hadn't been entirely painfull, just tempting to chase after the swirls for Alice who now shook a little and was praised by Clarissa.
"Well done! It took my cousin days just to get the tail!" said Clarissa with a very wide smile and patted Alice on the shoulder. "Now, Kaleb you take Alice and finish her shifts till my little annoucment and gathering. I have some brewing to do..."
Retreating back to the moving floor board, Clarissa waved Alice and Kaleb away with a toothy grin after slipping more ingredients into the cauldron. Kaleb laughed as it spit out a silver vapor and pushed Alice out into the corridors who now stared at her hands which had once been paws. Brushing behind his hair, Kaleb didn't take notice that Alice staggered after him who was temporaly used to have four legs instead of two. Without taking account of a few missing windows, Kaleb waited for Alice to catch up who staggered after every third or fourth step. It was a bad habit of Alice's to remember other habits other than her own.
It was very helpful, otherwise, for Kaleb to point out how the school was organized by houses and how students were chosen to represent each house;Salarsh, Hunzrin, Perrianku, Remma and Tibileek. Kaleb had been sorted into the Tibileek house when he came here and told Alice of how she was supposed to be sorted today. Issues of houses being jealous of the house who would have the shape shifter came to Alice, now understanding why she had so much fame in so little time of just arriving. Just a day ago she had been attacked by Kaleb's cat and now she was hearing of which houses she was to be sorted in.
"Hey." Alice looked up from her shoes to Kaleb who raised the lamp to allow Alice to see what Kaleb intended to show her; signartures on a wall. The wall was covered in ink that measured to a great distance. Kaleb handed her a pen, quickly explaining, "Every student signs here when they are to be sorted. It's sort of like...well, like a good luck wall if you want to put it that way. I signed myself with Prem and we both ended up in Tibileek."
"Every student?" gasped Alice, not sure to believe the statement and advanced to the wall to sign. "Which house do you hope I'm in?"
Kaleb paused for a few seconds. "Do you want an honest answer?"
"Of 'course."
"Tibleek. It's been so long since we've had any glory of being a house. Once you're sorted you'll find out. But do come on, I have to finish with this lamp."
Trotting away from the wall Alice scampered after Kaleb who held her up laughing at her current habit of waiting for a third and fourth leg. After several minutes of clinging onto Kaleb's arm for support of a missing pair of legs, the corridors began to slowly fill up with students. Not sure of wether to hide, Alice stood by Kaleb blushing slightly of people watching her clinging onto Kaleb. Merlin roamed past them, hissing at Alice who waved to him for a short three seconds.
"Don't bother," whispered Kaleb once Merlin passed. "He's been in a wierd mood since you...well, tackled him as a dog."
Alice giggled at this. "Can't help it, it's my kanine instinct if I may say so myself!"
"Trust me, don't mess with Merlin. He's been none to think up wierd and cruel punishments for students," he hissed, with a grin. "My mom always tries to catch him in the act to ship him away somewhere."
Taking account of Kaleb's warning, Alice continued to follow him through the crowd of students and into the assembly room where Clarissa stood in the front in a deep conversation with a panel of what looked like judges("They're who decides which house we're in"). Mr.Brige stood on the other side of the remarkable room, glaring Alice down to her seat in the back with Kaleb who was waved to by several other students.
"Prem will be here, along with another student he said..." Kaleb whispered to Alice who was busy with staring up at the painting that was painted onto the cieling.
Students crowded the fronts waiting and chattering of how the shape shifter was supposed to be here. Alice stirred nervously in her seat, playing with several buttons and clips of her denim overalls. Kaleb leaned forward with his head against the seat infront of him with his attention belonging to Alice as he asked, "Nervous?"
"What do you think?" hissed Alice, waving her finger at the students in chairs. "Wouldn't you with all these students watching?"
"I was," Kaleb sneered, quickly adding, "Just ignore us and pay attention to that panel of teachers who will decide which house you'll go in."
"Kaleb?"
Alice leaned forward past Kaleb who sat up straight to see a male sitting next to Kaleb with another female student. Prem, as Kaleb adressed the male, watched Alice with huge eyes as Alice gave a small wave with her free hand to him and the female which Prem introduced as Kanni. With doubts Alice shifted back to face the front after several hand shakes with Prem and Kanni. Students rushed into the front as Clarissa held her hands up to silence the large crowd of what seemed like maybe only three or four hundreds of students.
"Welcome!" Clarissa's voice boomed in the front. "Welcome to a new school year to this boarding school! You are students who have powers that people do not normally have and that is why you are attending this school. It's not a privilge, it is a right to you students. Now, if I may clear up some rumors...there is several new students. Two are what people have been talking about for days. First one is one with a power no one has yet to explained and the other...well, rumors are true if they say that there is a shape shifter here at this school. Houses have been asking me where to put these students and my case rests when I say let the panel decide. Also, Merlin says the the corridor in the fifth floor in near the old art room is off limits to any students! Now, I have two words; Panel, begin."
Students chattered eagerly as the first few students, went up. Kanni and Alice were slowly left. Kaleb drew in a deep breath as the woman called, "Black, Alice."
"Good luck," whispered Kaleb before Alice stood up and walked down to the panel.
She could understand why students would be so nervous to stand infront of the few teachers looking down Alice.
"Shape shifter?"
"Correct."
"New student."
"Shape shifter."
"We know that all ready!"
"Courage? Yes."
"Wisdom? Maybe."
"Ancient interest?"
"..."
"Shape shifter."
"I told you to shut up!"
"Well...Clarissa?"
Clarissa looked up with surprisement. "Yes?"
"You decide."
"Shape shifter."
"We know that!"
"Well...um..." Clarissa looked Alice down who was blushing wildly. "Looks a little Tibileek if you ask me."
"Tibileek it is!"
