Kanni

         ( another attack, eh? I'll give you an ambush! lol)

   "Ugh..." Kanni moaned restlessly in her sleep, her head tossing and turning back and forth. Her fists tenses into fists and then relaxed only to curl up again, her knees buckled and her face scowled in pain. Her forehead beaded in sweat and and her muscles screamed as they began to spasm. She began gasping in breath, her chest heaving unsteadily up and down. "Kanni? Kanni!" a voice cried as she heard the drapes rip across the rack. Cold air came from the hall but she still felt like she was burning up inside. She whimpered as her arm muscles tightened and cramped painfully.
   "Madame Lunna!" the voice called and she suddenly felt a hand fly to her forhead only to quickly withdraw. "She's burning up!" Then Kanni heard Madame Lunna's voice begin to speak very fastly around her but her head was already drumming with pain deafening everything into an inaudiable murmur. Her dreams were black, and a high pitched cackle rung within her ears. Her nightmares were attacking again. Lately they have been more frequently.
   Suddenly someone pulled her into an upright position and smacked her cheeks lightly. Her body fell limp into the arms. Even though she tried, she couldn't make her limbs move. She felt like helpless jello. She was faintly aware of what was going on around her, but nothing more. Her head felt like it was about to explode and she felt her bed jerk into movement as it was rolled quickly down the hallway. A sudden green light pierced through her eyelids and she felt her body's spasing slowly ease into rest again. But she was still burning and her head was still thudding loudly within her skull. Her eyes flickered open and shut like she couldn't control them.
   Another blast of green sank painfully into her body but then she felt her head-ache slowly ebb away into a dull migrane. Now she was only still burning, and her body was completely limp. The last blast of green was the largest, wrapping around her several times and stabbing at her skin like a bed of needles as it sank into her skin and sought out the pain, dulling it away.
   Then a rush of blue icy light swept over her like a gust of wind, cooling down her flaming organs. Kanni's breathing was still tortured, but no long half as painful as it had been before. She let out deep breath of releif as her body numbly fell back to the sheets. She heard Madame Lunna let out the breath of anticipation she had been holding and said wearily, "There...that should hold her for now."
   "What happened?" Kanni recognized the voice as Premidas's now.
    "Is she okay?" Themrus's voice asked overhead.
   "For now. We mustn't wake her. Let her sleep the healing off, then she should be fine if the healing had any effect at all, that is." Madame Lunna said lightly and her bed jerked as it rolled back behind the curtains. They were closed and Kanni slipped into a black sleep. Someone then put a cold hand on her forehead, but pulled away too soon. Kanni's hand, almost unconciously, shot out to grasp the person's wrist but she only felt air between her fingers. The rack made a metallic noise as the person pushed through the curtains and left.
   Her hand fell limply back onto the sheets next to her, and she drew her knees up, balling up for a hopefully deep sleep.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
   Premidas, clad in some baggy jeans and a black short-sleeved shirt braced both hands on his cane as he shuffled over to Themrus. "Kanni's forhead is still really warm," he said.
   "Yes...I know. She has a little bit of a fever now, but that should clear up by late tonight." Madame Lunna informed, panting from the large amount of magic and energy it took to calm Kanni's jerking body.
    "What happened to her?" Premidas asked, combing through his slightly matted white hair, his red eyes looking up at the healer expectantly.
    "I-I honestly don't quite know. Some form of spasm, I suppose. That's what it looked like. But what caused it is what I'd like to find out." the healer replied and then strode off to go check on her other patients. "And you, Mister? How are your wounds coming along?" Mr. Ulthra swept down in front of him on his was out.
   "After Kanni's attack last night a little worse off than they should be, but I'm fine...really."
    "'Kanni's attack'?"
    Premidas took a deep breath and described what Kanni had done to him, Kaleb, and the nursery when the black magician took hold of her again. Mr. Ulthra silently listened, seeming very interested. Finally he said, "Yet again, eh? And still she didn't acquire a third power...this is not good...not good at all..." the ghost muttered as he abruptly left Premidas without so much as a "good bye". The boy shrugged and wondered how Alice was doing.
   He had heard Gabriel was back and was excited to see the man again. He came to Alice's bed and pulled away the rack to see Gabriel sitting on her bed, looking as good as new. "Gabriel!" he breathed, not beleiving it himself for a moment.
   "Ah, Mr. Anthen! Nice to see you're recovering quickly," Gabriel looked up and cracked a broad smile. "How are you? Does Madame Lunna know you're our of your bed?"
   "Yes," Premidas grinned. "I'm fine. Getting better. You?"
    "Good as new," Gabriel held out his arms for proof. Then Premidas settled down on a wooden stool placed by Alice's bed and became serious.
    "What happened to you down there? What did Brige do?" he asked, eyeing the man intently who dropped his smile into a frown.
     "Enough to make we want to kill him," the man growled. "Listen, I really don't want to talk about this now, okay?"
     "That's fine," Premidas pulled back and yawned heavily. "Man, I need to get some peaceful sleep!"
     "What happened to Kanni, Prem?" Alice asked. "Why is she in my old bed?"
   "She had another attack...I was only there for the second part of it, you should ask Kaleb for the whole story later."
     "Is that why he's so bruised? And is that why you're still bleeding?" Alice asked even though she knew the answer. The animagus nodded and pushed a white strand from his face when Alice discovered the scar on the right top side of his forehead. "Oh...where'd you get that from?" she asked, poiting to it.
   "Oh...that? From that night...the night Gabriel disappeared." he answered gravely and moved a few strands down over it to cover it up better.
    "That night..." Alice said with a hint of anger. "Brige will pay for all this! He won't get away with it!"
    "No he won't. Ulthra and Themrus are already planning what to do with him. Too bad Ulthra is in this too; otherwise Themrus would gladly allow Gabriel to kill Brige right then and there!" Premidas growled, not meaning any offense towards his ghost teacher. Gabriel chuckled at this and said, "Okay kiddies! How about we forget that for just one second and talk about something else?"
   "Like how I'm gonna live with you?" Alice asked hopefully and Gabriel grinned.
    "I hope so, kiddo, I really hope so."
     "I'll come visit!" Premidas offered and then said, "As long as you keep that pool!"
Alice
(Attack!!1 lol. XD)
   In the school's arcade students recollected themselves into their groups, unaware of the events that took place the previous days. No one had seemed to be bothered by Kanni's or Alice's absence at all, yet most seemed to take awareness that Kaleb was sitting only in a booth, seperating the bottle green strands from his natural dark brown hair. He had been wearing a pair of dark jeans and a loose black sweater with a hood. Both feet were kicked up onto the long seat of the booth, taking up more space than usual to prevent from being drawn into some boring conversation with the giggling girls in the booth several paces away from Kaleb. Everyone was normal, as if nothing had ever happened and yet Kaleb sat there on the booth, his mind wandering to Alice, Premidas, Kanni and Gabriel. So much had changed than anything else this year all because of two students.
   A woman now stood infront of the booth's table, placing bags of food with a wink before walking off to the kitchens. Kaleb had decided to bring food to the others, knowing that they weren't getting much food at the hospital wing. He quickly looked into the bags, finding that the woman had given him soup to bring back as well as some tea bags. The boy stood up while fingering the bag to his hand while walking through the crowd which had gathered over some new game some kid had bought. Kaleb had completely managed to get away from the crowd and out into the corridors, fixing portraits without having to go up to them as he walked. Several bells now chimed for the special classes to end which were in the left side of the school, exactly opposite of where Kaleb was heading too.
   Merlin had been walking through the corridor infront of Clarissa's office, startled when Kaleb made the light bulb switch off into darkness and then back off. The boy enjoyed giving the old man a startle every once and a while, already imagining his mother's disapproving look. But around the corner had been what Kaleb was startled most about for his mother was greeting someone into her office. It had been a man and what could have been his daughter, her dark hair and deep blue eyes staring at Kaleb from over her petite shoulder. Suddenly something seemed to have stabbed him in the pain, only finding himself watching someone try and get past the wall that guarded his mind, trying to pry for some memory. The boy staggered to the ground holding his head, the pain stopping once Clarissa's door closed. He had now been sure that the girl had pryed into his mind just now.
   It infact seemed to be a topic that concerned Kaleb to the rest of the way, his head aching with pain while the portrait of the girl standing next to her father and his mother, staring into him and prying for something specific. No one had mention to anyone of the new student yet, not even Themrus seemed to know about it and some surprised expression had played upon Clarissa's face when Kaleb saw her in the corridor. Now he entered through the large wooden doors into the lobby of the hospital to only find Themrus leaning over the desk, murmuring something to Madam Lunna as Kaleb crept around them and into the dorm where Alice and Kanni were located.
   "Ah! And here is Mr. Agretto!" Gabriel's voice had cheerfully called through the dorm, calling Kaleb's eyes to catch the vision of Alice sitting up on her next while Premidas sat on a stool next to the bed and the man sat on Alice's bed, spreading his arms out and asking, "What do you think? Alive or just damn lucky."
   "Both really. Anyways, I got you all some food." Kaleb had handed out the food one by one, watching Gabriel eye his own food carefully, not wanting to waste anything for the man hadn't eaten healthy for what seemed like several days. "The lady there gave me soup to bring back to you. Is Kanni still asleep?"
   "Sleeping like a baby," chuckled Gabriel, handing Alice her own soup from Kaleb. "Did you see your mother somewhere in the corridors at anytime while walking over here? There is something we need to discuss..."
   "Yea, but it looks like there is a new students here. She was bringing them into her office," answered Kaleb, deciding to keep the rest out. He could break the gleeful mood that taken over the room. "Has Miss Black snuck out at all today so far?"
   "Was about to," growled Alice, drinking her coke from the can. "Until Themrus caught me half way to the fridge in the teacher's room in this wing. I was so close too!"
   "You can never get past that room. Tried it once, remember that Kaleb?" said Premidas.
   "Too well almost, we both turned to ferrets once we got into it," said Kaleb.
   "I heard from Clarissa herself that you two made good ferrets," sneered Gabriel. "Alice, you took these?" The animagus was looking down at the camera of the pictures of the house he bought, then handing it to Premidas and Kaleb whose eyes grew hungry at the picture of the pool and the size of the house. "I'm surprised the neighboors still do the lawns and flowers on that house."
   "Let me tell you that it wasn't easy getting there. I had no clue where to find a taxi first of all in the city," hissed Alice. "And does the pool freeze over in the winter?"
   "Funny story about that actually," chuckled Gabriel. "Themrus and I were visiting the house, we were renting it then, for the winter and we forgot that the house didn't drain the water itself so the whole pool froze over with the hardest and smoothest ice you'll ever see. So, we had our own skating ring in the back yard for winter! And when I get back with Clarissa I'm going to have to get you some new clothes seeing how you bled through most of them, kiddo."
   "I've got to come over one time," whispered Kaleb, flipping through the pictures.
   "Gabriel!" The door had stood agar slightly with Clarissa sticking her head out of it, waving Gabriel to her. The man stood up, kissing Alice briefly on the forehead and give the two boys and friendly pat on the head before walking over to the principle, hissing about how impatient she was. Yet now the three looked at eachother, hearing Kaleb's story of the new girl and began to talk in deep conversation.
   *                                          *
         *                     *
   "Court?! You've got to be joking about this Clarissa! Themrus, help me out here!" The animagus was now leaning back on the red couch in Clarissa's office, exmaining a sheet of papers he held up in the air. "I've got to go to court just so I can get my money back and be allowd to have Alice live with me? This is a load of crap, Clarissa."
   "It's the law and we gifted folk must follow those laws as well. Even though we clear you, the people out there who don't know about us won't think the same way. Ulthar has put up an excellant defense force us that can't even lose. You can get a job here Gabriel! Even stay here with Alice freely!" bribed Clarissa, looking at Gabriel to except.
   Instead the ma tore the papers in half. "I will absolutly not step foot into that court room. I trust Ulthar but he hasn't left this building for ages. For all I know Brige could be the only going against me and he'll be spitting out curses while he's at it."
   "Gabriel, think about Alice and her friends for once!" hissed Themrus. "Alice has risked her life to find you and she has, now you're going to throw it all away because you're afraid to step into a court room. I know you're braver than this Gabriel."
   "Can I at least think about this?" questioned the man, looking up at Clarissa who had been fixing ornaments on the tables.
   "As long as you want before tonight for then I've got to make phone calls to get you in. Imagine this Gabriel, you can get a job here and live with Alice freely, earning money like you always did before all of this!" said Clarissa.
   "And what about Brige?" asked Gabriel.
   "Ulthar and I have a plan about that," said Themrus with a smirk.
   "Clarissa, you're a parent but will this really help Alice in the future?" asked Gabriel, sitting up with his face in his hands.
   "Unless you want your god-child to be hidden away from the world when being with you as a family, then I think you should do this. Alice can feel more safe knowing that most people won't be after you anymore and people will accept you to work for them for the money you'll need to support each other. Trust me Gabriel, you can finally bring her home to the house you spent so much time thinking about and worrying if she'd feel right at home. And I guarente you that she will feel more than at home with you freed and in your home."
Kanni
   Kanni's head throbbed as her eyes slowly fluttered open. She smiled lightly when she saw Premidas looking down on her. He patted her head. "You feeling better now?"
    "A bit."
     Kaleb and Alice hovered just beyond Premidas's shoulder with smiles. "Welcome back into the real world!" Alice greeted and leaned down to lightly embrace Kanni, happy to have her friend back. Kanni weakly wrapped her arms around Alice, feeling elated to see her friends hadn't disappeared even through all the attacks and pain she infflicted on them; like she sometimes expected them too. These were true friends. She had nearly killed Kaleb and Premidas, yet they were still here waiting for her to wake. She would have killed Alice could she have gotten to her, yet Alice was alive and well in her arms. Kanni smiled, her bleeding and scabbed lip beginning to break open again.
    Kaleb put a bowl of soup on the desk next to Kanni's bed and Premidas helped the girl as she propped herself up with pillows and took the soup. Her stomach rumbled loudly for she hadn't eaten anything while she was alseep. She gratefully dipped the spoon into the soup and felt the warm liquid trickle down her throat. "Thanks," she murmured between mouthfuls.
   "Your welcome, Miss," Kaleb replied sarcastically.
    "Where's Gabriel?"
     "In Clarissa's office. He's totally fine." Premidas groaned, perched upon the stool like a waiting owl. He eyed her as she ate, still wondering about what happened when the little soul had kissed his cheek. Ever since then he had different thoughts about his friend. Did she do that conciously? Could she remember it? Did she like him more than a friend, as he secretly and slightly did? He was nervous now around her. But she didn't seem to remember anything so he finally forced himself to calm down and act normal.
(hehe...he doesn't kno Kanni really kissed him at the hospital...hehe or at least that's what she think...hehe)
   "What?" Kanni fixed her lilac-green speckled eyes on him with a crooked smile. "Am I that amazing?" she joked and Premidas nervously grinned with a laugh, directing his eyes to Alice and Kaleb who exchanging smirks about his behavior. He sent them a scowl only to make Alice giggle. Kanni rose a brow. What was so interesting that she didn't know? Oh well.  She finished her soup and stretched out, yawning and moving her bones that had become quite stiff after lying so long. She suddenly got the urge to get up and walk about.
   "You think I can walk around?" she asked Kaleb who shrugged.
    "I don't see why. I would help you recover. Why not? You and Alice can recover together!" he jested in a high pitched voice and Alice elbowed him but he only laughed. Kanni, dressed in the light blue hospital smock. A little blue band was fastened around her wrist like a tag to show she belonged in bed and not in class. Kanni tugged at it but it didn't break so she left it alone.
   Premidas handed her a cane lying next to her bed like he had and she slipped her bare feet down onto the cold tiled floor. Premidas braced himself against his own cane since he was still injured and shuffled around like a grandma, teasing her and Alice. Alice had now abandoned her cane and could walk just fine, but she still stuck her tongue out at the animagus.
   Kanni buckled her elbow and pushed against the cane, almost falling when her knees seemed to fall from right under her. Alice and Premidas grabbed her arms and lifted her steadily back onto her feet. Kanni became frustrated. "What is this?! Have I forgotten how to walk?"
   "No, you're probably just a little stiff." Kaleb offered and Kanni finally managed to walk. Her legs throbbed, her right knee tightly bandaged up along with her fists and a swab was taped to a gash on her stomach from all the beds Kaleb had sent flying at her. Soon she was shuffling around down the hallway, students greeting her as they watched TV and played their game boys.
   The sun filtered through the once but it was hazey and white, like a storm was just about to come. Actually Kanni always loved storms and windy Autum days, when it was slightly dark. Those were the days you could light a fire and cozy up to someone you liked and drink hot cocoa. She shot Premidas a look; annoyed he was staring at her again. His cheeks flushed and he quickly looked away.
    "What is it with him?" Kanni hissed to Alice.
    Alice smirked but only shrugged, "Dunno." Kanni rose a brow skeptically but said no more. Madame Lunna was briskly walking across the hall, checking the students in beds lined up on both sides. "Ah, Miss Merrane has awoken!" she called when she spotted Kanni. Kanni smiled weakly.
   "Good that you're walking around. I helps you. Keep at it, but I want you back in bed to rest in an hour. And don't dar try to leave like Miss Black has," Madame Lunna shot Alice a meaningful look with a smile and a wink, then hurrying down to check on other students. "Whew..." Kanni grinned, "Didn't get killed."
    "Yea..." Kaleb said, his gaze a little distant as other thoughts took hold a moment. "So, where and what shall we do? I'm hungry for some action already! Lying in a bed and sleeping for two days isn't really my style," Kanni got a mischivious look in her smile and eyes.
   ( a lil short, but I promise a longer one next time...gotta go write on me short stories sometime too ya kno!)
Alice
   Wether Madam Lunna really allowd Alice to ask for permisson to go down to the arcade and malls, even Kaleb wasn't sure for the shape shifter had snuck out along with Kaleb and Kanni, soon followed by Premidas through the dorm and past Madam Lunna who was busy treating a student who had gotten herself into a color charm, her skin turning a bright pink with deep blue spots. The four had given eachother complete confidence in sneaking out, which they did once Alice bribed the portraits never to speak of them sneaking out when Kanni was orginally supposed to be staying in bed for another hour. Each portrait gave the shape shifter a shuffle, then a nod, and then an agreement stretching out their arms from the portrait to shake hands with Alice to make the bribe offical. Alice roamed freely infront of the three, her arms swinging by her side while looking down at the ball of paper she had been kicking for the past minute. Kaleb had then rushed to her side, kicking the ball of paper himself while wrapping his arms around her shoulders which was something that only made Kanni and Premidas exchanged glances that slightly looked blushed.
   Other students had only noticed the apperance of the four after two days and were now chattering to themselves in a more hushed voices. Perhaps they were gossiping about what had happened in the last two days to themselves. If anything involved something with them it had been tackled on with rumors and the newest gossip made up or just even heard from someone else. What made Alice grin deviloushy was to find Brige leaning against the frame of this door, twisting something in the pocket of his robes while watching Alice give him a brief 'L' with her index finger and thumb on her forehead, quickly putting her hand to her side as Snoop roamed the halls for Kaleb or Clarissa with leaves of a plant stuck under his over large nose. Yet Kaleb had suddenly made a choice of going out into the courtyard behind the school, somewhere where Alice hadn't been to in the longest time she thought of. Yet now it was different with the cool Autumn breeze roaming through the trees which leaves were beginning to change color, only to result in falling to be picked up by the air, only to fall minutes later to the ground.
   Kanni had settled on sitting at the gazeebo where several students had just walked away from to watch the fight between two other students, already wrestling on the ground. Before sitting down herself, Alice shifted into a squirel to brush the leaves off of the seats quickly with her large bushy tail. After several minutes of cleaning the squirell shifted back into Alice, sitting on the wall of the gazeebo under it's wooden roof. Just sitting there with the Autumn breeze had been very peacefull to watch the students wrestle themselves now after the two had been punching eachother to the ground, recieving nose bleeds, swollen lips and black eyes. Kaleb had been sitting on the table where the benches were missing across from Alice to only murmur in a hushed voice, "You're not worried about this new girl we've talked about at all when she tried to break into my own mind?"
   "I'm trying to ignore that Kaleb. It only makes me more nervous to be eager of finding out what this girl looks like and maybe what she is..." whispered Alice back, trying to tie her hair back instead of it being played with by the breeze. "Can there be something like a possesser for a skill or is it just skill and practice?"
   "Don't ask me for I'm not even sure about that. But I know she tried to break into my mind and was digging for something...a memory of something that she wanted but she couldn't even find it for my mother brought her into the office," whispered Kaleb, hearing the giggling from Kanni at one student being thrown into the nearby lake. "My mother can never be possessed or even allow something into her mind for she's more powerfull to even allow that."
   "Well, there is going to be an assembly for that then, right?" asked Alice, still in the hushed voice that she had been speaking in for the past minute or two. "Unless the panel rejects her for being late and things like that..."
   "We'll just have to wait up on that and see if my mother and the panel allows her. Yet Themrus and Ulthar have been up to things lately, always hissing about Brige. It's beginning to get suspensive on what they're planning to do with that man," he whispered back, his eyes darting over to where a stun charm had nearly hit Alice and himself. "Watch that! I'll be getting into that fight of yours too if you plan to try another stun!"
   Premidas had then leaned across the space between him and Kaleb, saying, "I'll get into it too for one nearly hit the roof. And-Hey, isn't that Brad or is it Gabriel?" He had spoke in almost of growl when referring to Brad, but he relaxed to find Alice shaking her head to the name of someone who Kanni went with first to the dance. The shape shifter jumped off of the gazeebo wall to land softly on the ground, shifting quickly into white owl to fly across the distance between her and her own guardian, only to shift back to Alice to be embraced by Gabriel. Her hands had already been pressing against his chest and arms to make sure that the man was even real, for it had been dressed in a new cloak, wearing dark denim jeans with a tanish sweater with his long hair cut short, still long enough to be pulled back into the short tail with a thin piece of string. First Alice was the one to speak, only blurting out, "How are you st-you're not even allowd to be out here in the first place!"
   "Can you listen and instead not smuggle out Kanni?" sneered Gabriel, kneeling lower to face Alice, insisting that she laid her palm open, and dropped a key in her hand. "Clarissa, Themrus and I just came back from normal court and I've been cleared. Which means I'll be looking for a job soon here and outside of the school. It also means that you can live with me now, kiddo."
Kanni
   "Whoohoo!" Kanni heard Alice whoop with excitement as she threw her arms around Gabriel once more. Kanni smiled. She was happy for her friend. Finally, maybe, things were turning around. Kanni, dressed in a strapless black top and baggy gray jogging pants that fell over her addidas shoes tried to cnceal her hospital tag by slipping some skin-tight separate sleeves up to her elbow. They were striped with black and white and fit normally to what she was wearing. She had also taken a shower to wash all the cold sweat from her, and her lilac hair smelled like shampoo.
   Kaleb smiled too. "Hey, guys, I'm going to live with Gabriel!" Alice cried excitedly to them and tugged the man by his sleeves over to the gazebo. "He went to court and cleared his name! He's free!" Alice continued, her eyes wide and an elated smile stratched across her lips. Kanni suddenly felt a surge of pain streak through her head. Not wanting to alarm them with her painful expression she lowered her forhead into her cross arms, leaning against the tabel.
   "Kanni?"
    "I'm fine! Just tired," Kanni snapped, her temple throbbing. She sighed and lifted her head back up with a weak grin she hoped was reassuring. Her eyes seemed to pop out with a heavy thudding just behind them. Her hands grew cold and her bare arms slightly prickled. Alice shot her a worried look. "Are you sure? You look freaked."
    "I'm fine already! Come off it!" Kanni snarled and fitted the blue tag band back under the sleeves where it had slipped out. Alice rose an eye brow but shoved away the comment. "So, anyways, he's free now! He's gonna get a job and everything! Isn't that wonderful? My mom tosses me away, but I finally get to live with someone who really loves me."
   Gabriel smiled and rubbed his knuckles across Alice's head saying, "That's right. Now we can do what ever we want! I can finally go into the public for crying out loud!"
    "What about Brige?" Premidas finally asked, wondering how they could have forgotten about the obstacle that still wouldn't budge out of their way.
    "Themrus and Ulthra have already promised to deal with him." Gabriel said in a low voice and then smiled again. "You all have to come over and swim and stay over too sometime!"
     "Don't mind if we do!" Premidas threw his hands up with excitement. "We'll see you blasted lucky fool everyday!" he directed to Alice who couldn't have looked more happier. But Kanni couldn't have felt worse. Her head throbbed, drummed, and pounded. Maybe it was time she returned to the hospital...
   "Kanni?" Gabriel noticed the girl's strange behavior and patted her back only to have her jerk away with fear, as if he were some killer who had found her hiding spot. "I-I think I better go inside again. It's kindda chilly out here," she said in a rushed tone and wobbled to her feet, using the cane to shuffle down the gazebo steps and headed out into the gravel.
   "Yea, maybe we should," Premidas shot the others a look of question but they didn't know either. They followed as Kanni, in a hurry, headed towards the doors. Just as the girl was about to open them they swung forward to reveal a girl with long brown locks. Her blue eyes were genuine and seemed endless as Kanni's lilac irises locked into hers. A sudden horrible pain jerked her from the near hypnosis and she lowered her head in pain.
   The girl's gaze followed as Kanni cringed to the floor, her hands pressed tightly on her temples. "What the hell do you think you're doing?!" Premidas's angry voice bellowed as he neared, Alice and Kaleb backed away to keep from view. Kanni's breaths came in fast, short gasps. Premidas them squeezed her shoulder and the girl's blue eyes shot to him. He felt a dull pain throb within his head, but ignored it.
   The girl's expression was clear and innocent; but her eyes were never faltering--and powerful. "Kanni? Kanni!" Premidas yelled in her ear and Kanni snapped back into the real world. "What?" she meekly asked and Premidas helped her up. Suddenly the girl turned and ran down the lobby back to a woman who was beckoning her to come back. They disappeared into the principle's room once again, but not without the girl sending an eerie back-stare back at the two.
   "Gee, thanks for your help," Premidas sneered at Gabriel, Alice, and Kaleb who were cowering behind the doors.
   "I don't like her. Listen to me, especially Alice and Kanni, I want you to stay away from her, okay? She's bad news." Gabriel said in a stern tone now. Kanni, returning to normalcy, lightly nodded. Her headache hadn't eased up; on the contrary, it had gotten worse. But at least she had her sense of balance back.
    "Hey, how about we go to the arcade and get some ice cream before turning Kanni back in to her prison cell?" Prem suggested.
     "On me," Gabriel offered, his eyes still a little weary of what just happened. He, with a gently grip, lifted Kanni to her feet and steadied her before heading off. Kanni now barely needed her cane; after walking the whole afternoon she had regained most of the mobility in her legs and limbs.
 The halls were filled with students whispering and loudly laughing irritatingly. They shot the group looks of what sometimes was disdain before turning back to their conversation. Kanni stuck her tongue out at some of them and flicked a few off when Gabriel wasn't looking to give her a lecture about being nice.
   Alice soon did the same, also annoyed at the curiosity of the nosy students. The food court was also packed and Mrs. Taint was even there. She soon approached Kanni and asked, "Ah, you're out of the hospital. When can I expect you back at training? Has anything happened? Ah, hello Gabriel! Good to see you!" She greeted the animagus and the kids shot surprised glances.
   "Don't worry, Themrus and Ulthra are using me to help with the 'Brige' problem. Kanni?" Mrs. Taint fixed her eyes on the girl.
   "Well....uh....I had another attack two nights ago but I should be back in regular class soon...It depends on Madame Lunna." Kanni almost whispered, not wanting to be reminded what she had to do to be safe around other students. And even with the training she still couldn't completely relax around people without the fear of what might happen.
   "Good. Good day then, all of you," Mrs. Taint slightly inclined her head and headed out into the corridors.
    "Now that was a surprise," Kaleb chuckled. "I had no idea she knew too, much less help!"
    "Mrs. Taint go pretty far back too," Gabriel said and then quickly hurried them to the ice cream stand before they could pose any more questions about the subject. "Now hurry or I'll get completely chewed up by Madame Lunna if she finds Kanni out here and with us!"
Alice
   Riiinnngg! The small clock by the shape shifter's side went off, rattling on the white marble floor while she let go of her breath she had been holding and heaved in the air she had longed for several minutes. Her head throbbed with a pounding buzz almost forgetting that she was being given furthor instructions by Mrs. Taint who sat on the same white marble floor across from Alice. The girl had been here for what seemed to be hours, trying to sufficate intruders in her mind. It had been a new approach of training suggested by Ulthar which was something that made Alice wish that Ulthar had been instead too busy with teaching classes and thinking over their problem with her being a Verae. Gabriel had been watching his god child from behind one-way windows along with Themrus in the dome. Mrs. Taint continued with the instructions, "Once again, I'll try to enter your mind but you need to hold your breath to try and sufficate from from your mind since mind readers have limited air in other's mind. Ready? To five. 1...2...3...4...5!"
   Alice's head throbbed more with the pain of Mrs. Taint re-entering her mind for what was the seventh time, and felt herself cring to her floor. She let out several screams with her hands clamped around her temples. They had been through this for several times now after they brought Kanni back to the hospital wing after seeing that strange girl. Now it had felt like the girl might be in this room, doing exactly what she might had done to Kanni. Mrs. Taint was now propping Alice up again on her knees, brushing her off quickly with a rag before sitting down herself, folding out the creases in her own robes. No one seemed happy anymore with the only time where Alice knocked Mrs. Taint out of her mind by falling onto the woman, which was why the two were now sitting instead of standing. The shape shifter didn't want to go through this once more for her head throbbed with an umimaginable pain that  seemed to tear her apart from the inside the way she cringed onto the floor after every approach.
   "Alright Miss Black. I think that'll be enough for today but you better wash up and get ready for dinner tonight. We're expecting a new student to be sorted by the panel." The shape shifter was raised to her feet by the old woman who seemed to have sorrow buried somewhere of her fading smile to Alice. Gabriel had then been handed Alice, carrying her for Alice's legs would have given in now that there wasn't much strength left in her. If she had to do this every day, then Alice believed that she might not even be able to handle school with the training. But Clarissa had given instructions to the staff to teach Alice, a Verae, to repell intruders from her mind. It all made the same difference in the end to the shape shifter; she just wanted to be the normal girl instead of a Verae.
   The shape shifter had been carried up to her room by Gabriel who hadn't been at all pleased with the way Clarissa had forced these lessons of repelling intruders on his god child. His sister, who had died years ago, had always said that Gabriel was sometimes over protective of people who he has been giving the responsibility of watching over. He was for he couldn't bare Alice to be possessed again and for another mess to allow Brige more chances of getting anyone expelled. Brige was like a cannon waiting to go off at anyone now. Yet Gabriel helped Alice into the bathroom, putting her bloody knees from falling too much into the tub and washing them off after pulling up her jeans. Alice had been completely warn out from the lessons and the concern of the strange girl being sorted in the same corridor as her and Kanni was something that she had been worrried about. Kaleb had even told her that the same girl dug in his mind for some memory that she wanted so badly.
Kanni
       (sry real short!)
   Kanni's head tossed back and forth, throbbing...acheing...thundering! She could see visions of that new girl...her deathly blue eyes locked on her as Kanni cringed to the floor, remembering what had happened earleir that afternoon. She was now taking a nap, trying to clear her head; but so far it was only getting worse. "I say Salarsh!" the panel's arguement about her rung back through her mind, the memories flashing through her head.
   Something bad was about to happen. She was ever so deathly sure of it. Something they would all regret....
Alice
   Someone had been trying to shake Alice awake in the past few minutes of her peaceful when hissing and screams filled her mind from the farthest corner, arguing over something. The shape shifter finally awoke to find Gabriel luring above her, his hand keep her mouth closed while he pressed a finger against his own two lips to signal the shape shifter to keep quiet. There was something tearing through the room, invisible, throwing cabinets to the ground and throwing clothes around the room. It was looking for something dearly and wasn't paying any attention to the awoken Gabriel and Alice who watched this invisible person tear through the room. The mirror was then pushed to the ground, sending several thousands of glass shards scattered on the rug. It then stopped, as if it had just seen Alice and Gabriel watch it from the bed with curious expressions. Nothing had stirred in the room after several minutes, but a sudden force clenching around Alice's neck broke the silence.
   The shape shifter had been pinned against the wall, feeling human nails dig into the skin of her neck while the air for Alice began to run out. Her feet tried to kick anything infront of her that might be there, but it was no use for she had felt nothing. Gabriel had been trying to claw at anything, finding it difficult to peel Alice off of the wall and throw themselves onto the ground where Alice found air once more. Soft tapping was then made in the room from whatever was invisible. Gabriel had then shifted into the white wolf spotted with black, awaiting for the complete shifting of his god child which was interrupted by a painting that lunged at her, pressing her once more against the wall. Whatever it was it wanted Alice dead no matter how it was done. The wolf had tore at the canvas of the painting, giving enough time for his god child to properly shift into the choosen animal.
   But that was were it all began to change dramaticly. It had happened a few nights ago, large green wings such as dragonflies' protruding from her back while green and purple strands of hair sank into Alice's naturual dark red hair. Her skin was peeling, revealing a green tint of skin under the peeling skin. Voices were screaming to her, several objects being picked up in the room then dropped, Alice turning into a ghost then to normal, and then several objects being lit on fire or frozen. The invisible someone now seemed pleased, not attacking while watching the raging power change in Alice. The powers kept changing causing chaos in the room while she heard voices that never were there before. The animagus had then launched himself at a blur matierlizing on the bed, engaging into a fierce battle while Alice tried to keep the powers under control.
   "Black...Green...Purple, where is our little Verae now?"
   The voice was so cold and seemed to come from nowhere, yet it spoke something else that was ended by Gabriel skidding across the room to Alice, tugging her sleeves to leave the room while the blur became more detailed. The shape shifter, now with wings and alienated traits, followed the wolf and was glad that everyone was mostly at dinner preparing for the sorting. The voices kept growing louder and then soft at one point. People began to matierlized in the halls, reaching out for attention from Alice who ran past them, her hands clenched over her ears which began to grow more into a tip, like the ear of an elf. This had happened before, yet she took a chance of keeping the abnormal eye which no one seemed to notice. Gabriel had then barked getting the attention of Alice along with Merlin who was with Snoop.
   Both seemed entranced in the strange creature, once Alice, standing in the corridor with a white wolf tugging at her sleeve with impatience. Snoop had then launched himself at Alice but was thrown back by Gabriel. Merlin began to bark yells, perhaps to find Brige's attention that something was roaming the corridors. Even though Merlin began to scream out curses the shape shifter managed to run into another corridor with Gabriel, soon losing Merlin. She wanted to find Themrus or Clarissa, but the sudden thought of the girl struck her. The girl could enter minds, so would she know about this? It seemed to strike Gabriel too of where to go, his padded feet clicking against the floor next to Alice. Could they find Kaleb or Premidas before anything else did?
   No, not really for the invisible feeling reappeared in the corridor and there at the end of the hall stood the cloak that had attacked Gabriel and Alice before. It didn't have the same feeling as the one that had helped Alice find Gabriel. No, this one had a cold aura quickly filling the corridor, waving the uneeded lamp around as if to see the two on the other end of the corridor. Gabriel had then shifted and hid Alice in his cloak behind a curtain, almost leaning against the covered windows. They could see through the curtains, watching the cloak hover through the corridor. Then something had just entered Alice's mind, making her vision foggy while Gabriel's whispered warnings were drowned out by screams that seemed to come from nowhere.
   And there was the figure of the strange girl, attempting the walk through the broken wall that protected Alice's mind. Something had just then clawed through her memories, trying to find something that wouldn't be found easily. It was a request of something painfull, something of Gabriel for some odd reason. It had then found the memory, spreading a chilling horror through Alice who found herself staring at herself in what was a mirror, but with the wings and alien looks. The mirror had just then broke before her, sending shards of glass into Alice's eyes while previous memories created a sulky feeling through Alice...And all she hoped for was to find Kaleb and await the sorting of the new girl...
[Gotta go to the movies! YAHOO!]
Kanni
    "Hey, Kan," someone shook her. "Wake up sunshine, we gotta get ready for the sorting. Madame Lunna has let you off the hook; you can leave now." Kanni blinked open her eyes to see Premidas and Kaleb standing by her bedside, grinning. "C'mon! We gotta clean up for the sorting and feast. That new student, I heard, was put in the Salarsh housing area...We have nothing to worry about."
   "Tell me that when she tried to break into me again," Kanni growled, remembering the intrusion. That girl had no right to sift through her memories as she wished! Kanni would teach her a lesson; and a damn good one at that.  She lifted from the bed, still wearing what she had before when she snuck out. she slipped into her socks and shoes, now able to freely walk without a cane. Premidas still had to use it, and hated the fact. "Man, that is so not fair!" he complained as Kaleb and Kanni strode easily before him.
   "So, what are we getting ready for? All we have to do is show up." Kanni said, slowing her pace so the animagus could catch up.
    "First we gotta find Alice. Then we'll go see if we can squeeze and information about this girl from Themrus or mom." Kaleb replied, tapping his foot impatiently as Prem shuffled as quickly as he could. "God Prem! You're like a fricken' granny!"
    "Oh shut up!" Premidas snarled and then smirked micheiviously. "Hey, Kanni, up for another ride?"
    "What?"
     Then, in a billow of white mist a lion stood before them. It's red eyes glinted and it nodded to Kanni for her to get on, one injured paw lifted slightly in the air. Kanni grinned but shook her head, "You'll hurt yourself more with any additional weight, Prem. Not a good idea."
   Then suddenly Premidas's eyes grew wide. He made a small whimpering sound and then snarled angrily, as if an abrupt mood swing. Kanni watched his strong behavior with caution; this couldn't be good. A horrible nagging feeling settled in the pit of her stomach. Then a strange sensation washed over her like a bucket of icy cold water, making her jolt, her muscles beginning to jolt and cramp. Oh no....it was happening again!
   A blackness tugged at the tips of her eyes; no! She couldn't give in! Not now! She hardly noticed Kaleb's warning yells as the white lion started to pad towards her, a hungry look set in its eyes. "Kanni!" Kaleb finally screamed and dashed forth, grabbing her hand and yanking her back just before Premidas pounced on her. The lion turned his attention to Kaleb and snarled, then throwing his head back, he let out a lion roar that echoed through the corridor.
   "The damn thing had gone mad!" Kaleb yanked Kanni again, tugging her along as he began to run down the carpeted corridor, heading for the stairs. But a lion was much faster. Within seconds it had caught up with them and blocked off their escape. Kanni was almost numb, oblivious to everything but the blackness threatening to drag her under. What the hell was going on?!
    That's what I'd like to know, a little voice, that sounded much like her own, hissed. The lion pounced. Kaleb threw out his hands and the lion froze, just inches away from them, snarling and spitting. He tossed his hands to the side and Premidas went slamming into the wall. Sweat from the concentration and energy it took to hold of the lion beaded down his forehead. Kanni realized that he wouldn't hold that much longer.
   Do something! the voice within her screamed out the order. She had to. Had to trust and listen to it. She, then playing bait, began to run off down the hall. The lion shot forward, racing after her. Next thing she knew she felt the hot claws rip through her back, tearing through the skin and clothes. She screamed but, surprisingly, didn't feel much.
   Then, as if knowing what was about to happen, she spun around and shot out a hand. The lion fell to the floor from mid-pounce and let out another angry roar. A violet light began to lightly emmit from Kanni's body, a light suprano voice singing lines from what seemed a summer song, trailing on the air. White mist was extracted from the lion's body leaving Premidas in human form. He still looked angry; even angrier his lion form was no more.
  He leapt forward with and angry yell, falling on Kanni and the two tumbled to the floor. The impact pushed them together and Kanni felt her lips press against his. Then a horrible pain screeched through her head. She screamed with anguish, pulling her lips from his, trying to push him off her. A white mist began to surround them, seeming to leave Premidas as it floated into her open mouth while she howled with more pain.
   Her head throbbed and pounded, her skin burning. Finally she braced her feet against PRemidas's chest and pushed, knocking him from her where her tumbled onto his back, a surprised dazed look in his face. "Make it stop!" Kanni wailed, her hands pressed on her temples as it felt as if her head was swelling and thundering. "Make it stop!" she pleaded again, almost in tears from the excuciating pain. A foreign power was streaming through her; one that was not her own was now suddenly there. Finally the pain recedded and the let her hands drop, her body almost worn out to the point of paralasis. Her cramps and spams finally ebbed away and she felt limp, numb.
   Her breaths were in short unsteady gasps, her heart thundering in her chest as if it would burst. Her eyes closed, her brow furrowed upward, her cheeks red and hot. "Kanni..." a far-away voice came from her right, and then a light tap jolted her shoulder. "Kanni...can you hear me?"
   "Yes..." she said hoarsly and lightly opened one eye. Kaleb was leaning over her, looking worn out as well. "You alright?" he asked, wiping away from sweat from his forehead.
    "No." How could she be? After what happened? "Prem?" she muttered, remaining lying on the floor, "What did I do...?" She almost didn't want to know.
     "Kanni...Well, I'm afraid that I think you stole his power...He's lying over there, looking at us, but he looks confused."
     "God..." Kanni let her eyes fall closed again and sighed, steadying her breath, slowly regaining strength that seemed to have been brutally drained from her. Then she felt the carpet shift as someone crawled towards them. She knew it was Premidas. He was dragging himself over, obviously in pain. Kaleb got up and grabbed Prem's cane, returning it to him.
    "I-I can't shift-..." he began.
    "-I'm afraid Kanni's got it. Your power." Kaleb said bluntly.
    Kanni squinted her eyes closed at the comment; it was painful. Then she remembered in a pang. "Ulthra! He said, 'when you have stolen the third power, come to me within the hour'. I need to get to him..."
    "Don't move. I'll get him-" Kaleb got up but Kanni's hand twisted around his ankle.
   "No! Don't go...not alone. Prem, go with him."
    "Then who will stay with you?" Kaleb inquired with a hint of irritation in his voice.
    Kanni's head rolled to her left and she lightly opened her eyes to see bright blue ones peering intently back at her from the shadows. "She will...now go!"
    "Wha-?! Who will?" Premidas began.
    "Just go, damnit!" Kanni yelled with rising rage and the two boys hurried to their feet. Premidas braced himself against Kaleb as they hurried away.
     "I thought I'd never get the chance..." the girl with brown locks stepped from the shadows.
     "You're banned from here until admission. Leave." Kanni ordered with a cold voice.
     "I'm afraid I cannot do that...You probably know I am most likely going to be a Salarsh, and you a Tibileek. From what I've heard, many people hate your house...hate the competition." the girl tapped her long fingers against the wall, her clear blue eyes watching Kanni's every move.
    "Get out of here," Kanni snapped. "Go back to your room."
    "I am Lori...Lori Helken. Perhapse you've heard of me....no? Well, let me fill you in. I am known for my power of being able to break into people's memories...and I seek one. I almost found it, but lost it because of you. You were in her mind...you possessed her, didn't you? To protect her maybe? Or to get me out so you could take over her? Which is it, Remus?"
    "Remus? Who the hell is that?!" Kanni snarled.
    "Shouldn't you know, milthacti? Guess not...oh well. You will. Soon enough. In the meanwhile, I think I might sift through your memories...who knows? Maybe I'll find something useful." Lori cackled coldly, her blue eyes fixing on Kanni.
    Close your eyes! Close them! a voice screamed at her. With no time to waste Kanni clamped her eye-lids shut, squinting them from something that seemed to pry them open. Kanni heard the girl curse angrily. "Damn you! Open up!" Her eyelids fluttered but she denied the force tearing and ripping at her mind, trying, trying so desperately to get through. Suddenly the pain abruptly left and Kanni heard voices...Ulthra's voice!
    "What the hell?! Kanni!" the ghost exclaimed.
